A special Ukrainian film screening at Cinémathèque Luxembourg!
As part of Ukrainian Days in Luxembourg CinEast and LUkraine asbl warmly invite you to a special charity screening of the film “SLOVO” HOUSE. UNFINISHED NOVEL (original version with English subtitles) by Taras Tomenko on Wed, 11 June at 19.00.
After directing a successful documentary on the subject in 2017, Taras Tomenko is making a comeback with a feature film.
This thought-provoking story takes us to the dramatic life of Ukrainian writers during the “Executed Renaissance”.
Under the guise of comfortable living in the specially constructed “Slovo” House, these creators were subtly coerced to align their artistic work with the Soviet ideology. The film illustrates the transformation of an idealistic vision into a reality of intellectual and personal repression.
Synopsis: In 1927 in Kharkiv, Soviet Ukraine, the state-of-the-art “Slovo” House is built to accommodate the nation’s leading writers.
This initiative, orchestrated by Stalin, aimed to cultivate a new breed of Soviet writer and impose absolute control over the creative process, mandating the artistic doctrine of socialist realism. However, not all residents were willing to conform to the glorification of Stalin’s image. The unexpected arrival of a young, enigmatic writer named Volodymyr Akimov disrupts the established order within the “Slovo” House, a series of strange events begin to happen…
50% of profits will be directly donated to the #CinEast4Ukraine charity project.
The screening is part of the UADays in Luxembourg.
