FR S’approchant de la tragédie heureuse, Orlando bouscule la forme traditionnelle de l’opera seria. Au cœur de l’intrigue, une relation d’amour à quatre : Orlando aime Angelica, qui aime Medoro, qui est aimé par Dorinda. Dévasté par un amour non partagé, Orlando sombre dans la folie et fait appel au magicien Zoroastro. Transposé au cœur d’un musée, le spectacle interroge ainsi notre propre rapport au monde et au passé. La metteuse en scène Jeanne Desoubeaux s’empare d’Orlando, l’un des opéras les plus avant-gardistes de Händel, inspiré du poème épique de l’Arioste, en en réinterrogeant les assignations de genre. Chanté à sa création en 1733 par le célèbre castrat londonien Senesino, Orlando est aujourd’hui interprété par la mezzo-soprano Katarina Bradić, accompagnée par l’orchestre Les Talens Lyriques, sous la direction de Christophe Rousset.

Now, director Jeanne Desoubeaux reimagines this tale of love and turmoil through a 21st-century contemporary lens, exploring gender roles and emotional conflict. Set in a museum, the production invites audiences to view the past through fresh eyes – much like children discovering history for the first time. A knight torn between war and love, Orlando spirals into madness when he learns that his beloved Angelica loves another. Meanwhile, jealousy and frustration consume those around him, until the enigmatic magician Zoroastro intervenes. Starring mezzo-soprano Katarina Bradić and conducted by Christophe Rousset, Orlando comes to life with the renowned ensemble Les Talens Lyriques.

DE Orlando ist eine moderne Oper. Modern für das 18. Jahrhundert, denn Georg Friedrich Händel machte aus Ariosts Versepos eine Tragödie mit Happy End und befreite sich von den Konventionen der Opera seria. Modern aber auch für das 21. Jahrhundert, denn die Liebesgeschichte unterläuft geschlechtliche Zuordnungen. Der Ritter Orlando wird von seiner Liebe zu Königin Angelica, die Prinz Medoro liebt, in den Wahnsinn getrieben. Nur der Zauberer Zoroastro kann Schlimmeres bewahren. Jeanne Desoubeaux versetzt das Werk in ein Museum, wo es aus der Sicht von Kindern neu betrachtet und unsere Beziehung zur Welt und zur Vergangenheit hinterfragt wird. Die Titelrolle verkörpert Mezzosopranistin Katarina Bradić, die von Christophe Rousset und seinem renommierten Barockensemble Les Talens Lyriques begleitet wird.
