Synopsis

When soft drinks inspire a unique universe of creativity and humanity.

Since 1926 family and friendship, playgrounds and neighbourhood, innovation and solidarity, have been the “secret blend” of the luminous course of the Kliafa soft drinks Company. A small universe of creativity and humanity, built in Trikala, Greece, around one man’s vision “…to cool and sweeten the world!”

The documentary deals with the company’s almost 100-year history, through rare documents, photographs, recordings and archive footage, testimonies from people who worked at the factory in the past, as well as contemporary shots of buildings and machinery. The film illuminates the ethos and entrepreneurship of an entire era, and highlights the history of the people of the factory by emphasizing the small, unseen aspects of their daily lives.

A few words about the director

Vassilis Loules is a director-screenwriter of documentary and fiction films. He lives in Athens, Greece. His films have been awarded in festivals, have been shown on TV in Greece and abroad, and are being used as educational material at universities. They deal with History, Social Anthropology, Ethnography or Industrial Archaeology topics through personal stories.

Vassilis tours very often in USA, Canada and Europe showing his films at universities and leading the discussions which follow. Among the more than 30 universities in North America are: Harvard University, Columbia, Yale, Stanford, Princeton, Mc Gill, Simon Fraser, University of Michigan, University of Pennsylvania, Duke University, Dartmouth College, Loyola Marymount University LA, UCLA.
