Film screening, vinyls & DJ

Désolé, ce texte n’existe pas en français.

CinEast Film Festival and Rotondes invite you to a special event combining film, vinyl records and a DJ!

The film Funk YU is a lighthearted tribute to vinyl, appealing to collectors and music enthusiasts alike – whether or not they have ties to former Yugoslavia where the story unfolds.

The evening will also feature a record fair hosted by Muaaah Records and Specific Recordings, along with a laid-back DJ set from Heincha.

About the movie

A reluctant vinyl collector Franko finds himself on an adventure across former Yugoslavia to find the only vinyl record missing from his collection – the Ulica Jorgovana / Zlatokosa single by Darko Domjan, considered one of the finest examples of Yugoslav funk. Along the way, he meets a variety of colourful characters whom he interviews to get a glimpse into the obsession with digging through vinyl crates.
Dir. Franko Dujmić | Documentary, animation | HR/ME | 2024 | 81′ | With English subtitles

Director Franko Dujmić is a visual artist based in Croatia. He holds an MA degree in animation and new media from the Academy of Fine Arts, University of Zagreb. He is an author of experimental and animated short films, and a member of the Filmmakers Association of Croatia. Funk YU, a hybrid-documentary, is his first feature film. It had its world premiere in Ireland at 2024 IndieCork Film Festival, and was also screened at ZagrebDox, Beldocs Serbia and Dokumentale Berlin.

About the DJ

In his kaleidoscopic vinyl DJ sets, DJ Heincha – also known as a member of the Riga Disco Blitz collective – incorporates various flavours of disco, funk, 80s synth and other kind of groovy music from around the globe.

Since his early childhood, he has been surrounded by his parents’ vinyl records. Yet, he rediscovered their crackling magic in the mid-90s when a never-heard-before type of electronic dance music captured imagination and conquered hearts of many young people in Latvia. He then started collecting and playing records, sometimes reaching out also to older tunes suddenly appreciated and revived in a new context. His fascination has continued, even after relocating to Luxembourg by this ever-green record format. Heincha now shares his musical finds in various venues across the city, as well as in his home country.
