It’s time to get your hands in some squelchy, squishy, stretchy SLIME!
Polymers can create some really unusual materials that are not-quite-liquid, not-quite-solid. This week we’re exploring various different polymers and the strange fluids that we can create. It’s slime, but maybe not like you’ve seen it before! Because we are passionate about sustainable and eco-friendly science, you will not see the usual glue slime which uses petroleum-based ingredients, toxic activators, and un-stainable add-ins, we will use completely bio-based, sustainable, and non-toxic ingredients.
We’ll learn about polymers through hands-on exploration and see how can they can transform water into intriguing fluids. We’ll look at non-Newtonian fluid, gels, flubber, and craft our own slime with natural pigments and add-ins. Everyone will leave with a packet of bio-based, just-add-water flubber slime to take and make at home 🙂
Together we will take a short walk through the forest, hunting for natural polymers, to the slime station where we’ll make and play with two types of bio-based slime. Be prepared to get messy!
Lunch-time workshops start at 12 pm and run for approximately an hour. Adults are welcome (and encouraged!) to stay and join in, for children under 5, we require an adult to accompany.
